Applying to Cold Spring School

The three different grade levels outlined below follow slightly different application processes and schedules. Select the grade level that applies to your family to learn more. We strongly encourage families to join us for one of our Tours for Parents before submitting an application if you have not yet seen Cold Spring School in action.

Preschool

Cold Spring School has one preschool classroom that serves children ages three and four and can have up to 14 students. Children entering as three-year-olds stay in this classroom for two years. The preschool program is a full school day program with an optional Extended Day until 5:30pm. Preschoolers enjoy a rich, hands-on curriculum that is play and discovery based and includes Spanish, Fitness, Music, and Tinkering. Preschool applicants must turn three years old before November 1 of the year they will begin the preschool program.

DEADLINE

The application deadline is December 15, 2018 for families applying to Preschool for September 2019.

AFTER APPLYING

After we receive the application from you, you will be contacted to schedule your child’s visit to the preschool classroom. If applicable, please submit the Student Evaluation form to your child’s current teacher/daycare provider.

Preschool visits are individual and last about 30 minutes. No formal screening is administered, but you and your child will visit the preschool classroom with the Director of Admissions. A time will also be arranged for you to discuss your child’s application with the Director.

DEADLINE

The application deadline is February 1, 2019 for families applying to grades kindergarten through sixth for September 2019.

AFTER APPLYING

After we receive your child’s application and you submit the Student Evaluation form to your child’s current teacher, an individual visit to Cold Spring for you and your child will be scheduled. The Director of Admissions will meet with your child to administer a short, individual screening, and together your child and the Director of Admissions will visit a K/1 classroom. Meanwhile, time is set aside for you to meet the Director. These visits last about 45 minutes.

DEADLINE

The application deadline is February 1, 2019 for families applying to grades kindergarten through sixth for September 2019.

AFTER APPLYING

Families applying for admission in these grades complete the application, submit the Student Evaluation form to your child’s teacher, and apply for a Release of Records from your child’s present school. After we receive that information, a half-day visit for your child is arranged. During the visit, the child spends time in the grade she or he will be entering, participates in classroom activities, and is given an evaluation test to measure knowledge in reading and math. A meeting for parents and the Director can be arranged at either end of your child’s visit.

Get a glimpse of our JOYFUL LEARNING in action! Parents/guardians interested in applying to Cold Spring School are strongly encouraged to join one of our parent-led tours offered from October through January. Our tours are an excellent way to see Cold Spring School in session and hear about our program and community from multiple perspectives.

These tours include a visit to classrooms, followed by a question-and-answer period with Cold Spring’s Director, two Head teachers, and the Director of Admissions. Please note that tours are grown-up centered. All children whose families submit applications will be invited to visit Cold Spring School for individual visits during the admissions process.

Tuition and Financial Aid

2018-2019 TUITION

Preschool: $15,300
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade: $24,500

It is important to note that our tuition covers all instructional materials, supplies, and field trips.

Extended Day is our optional after-school program until 5:30 p.m. each day. Families can choose full-time or specified part-time options. Full-time tuition is $2,400.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Cold Spring School also offers several payment options. By working with FACTS Tuition Management Cold Spring School families can choose to spread their tuition payments over a 10-month span. Outside the minimal enrollment fee, families choosing installment payment plans do not pay more than those paying in lump sumps.

FINANCIAL AID

Since its founding, Cold Spring School has been deeply committed to enrolling children from a spectrum of economic backgrounds with both need-based financial assistance and payment plan options. To this end, over 44% of the current Cold Spring students receive some degree of financial assistance that varies from 10% to 90% of the tuition. Cold Spring School offers tuition assistance to qualified students on the basis of demonstrated financial need and the availability of funds. Financial assistance is allocated on a yearly basis and is renewable each year that a family qualifies. Cold Spring School’s financial aid awards are grants, not loans, and therefore, do not need to be paid back to the school.

Steps to Apply for Financial Aid for the 2019-2020 School Year

Starting in October

Please read Cold Spring School’s Financial Aid Policy in its entirety so that you are fully informed about Cold Spring’s policy and practices concerning financial aid.Beginning October 2, 2018, you may go to the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) Family Portal at https://sss.secure.force.com/familyportal to look over or even begin working on the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS). SSS is an independent organization that reviews your eligibility for financial aid, verifies submitted information, and conveys your financial aid eligibility to Cold Spring School.

January – February

File your 2018 federal tax returns as early as possible during the months of January or February 2019. If you haven’t already, begin work on the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) online at https://www.solutionsbysss.com/parents and submit it to School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). Use the figures from your completed 2018 tax returns. If this is not possible, you may file your PFS using estimated figures before your 2018 taxes are completed.

When available, upload or mail a copy of your complete federal tax return, signed and dated, including all supporting schedules, to SSS. The copies that you submit to SSS must be identical to the returns that you submit to the IRS.

When available, upload or mail your other required supporting documents: a copy of your 2017 federal tax return, your 2018 W-2’s, and copies of two current pay stubs.

If divorced, separated, or never married, each parent must submit a separate PFS to SSS. Each parent must also send in a complete set of signed and dated 2018 tax returns to SSS.

If you own your own business or are a part of a partnership or S corporation, you must include the 2018 return from that business and a copy of your K-1 form(s).

DEADLINE:

By February 15, 2019, the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS), which can be found online at https://solutionsbysss.com/parents, must be completed.
